Post Overview and Summary
This is a complete review of the company “Ledger”, a hardware wallet company aimed at enhancing the safety of all types of cryptos through a unique, tested, and proven technology.
Headquartered in Paris, Ledger is a fast-paced growing company.
Founded by 8 experts with complementary qualifications in embedded security, it currently has over 130 employees stationed in Paris, Vierzon and San Francisco.
Its wallets are uniquely designed to secure your private keys on a secure chip. The chip keeps your private keys offline via Ledger’s proprietary Operating System called BOLOS.
In this post, you will find out all you need to know about the company, its products, and major competitors. To make this clearer to you, here’s a list of what I will go over.
Read the rest of the post to be wowed on the amazing features of the company’s products.
The company has 2 wallets currently on sale, but you will find out other interesting products or packages offered.
Its products include
1. Ledger Nano S
The Nano S is a hardware wallet with the shape or size of a USB drive. It supports over 1000 cryptocurrencies. The device is sold at $79 and comes with free shipping if you are buying from the company.
I have done a complete review of Nano S. Read review here.
2. Ledger Nano X
Launched in early 2019, The nano x is Ledger’s mobile-friendly wallet. Somewhat like the Nano S, but the X is a well-calculated upgrade of its predecessor.
It is powered by an inbuilt battery and features an incredible Bluetooth connection that allows you to even connect to your smartphone and more.
Find out more about the Nano X by clicking here.
3. Ledger Backup Plan
A smart move by Ledger. The backup plan allows you to backup all your crypto assets using both devices at a time maintaining one private key.
The Nano X is used for your mobile operations while the Nano S is kept at home or kept in storage. This means that if you lose any of the devices, your funds are safe; all you have to do is log in to the other device to regain access to your funds.
Here, both devices are sold together at a 20% discount rate of $149 instead of $178 when you buy them separately.
4. Ledger Live
The “Ledger Live” is a software application designed for your desktop or smartphone. It provides the interface between your computer/smartphone and your Ledger Wallet.
The app does not expose your keys to the internet. Allows you to check your balance, manage your crypto portfolio and configure your wallet.
Read the full review here to understand how it works better.
5. Ledger OTG kit
The OTG kit (On-the-Go kit) contains adapters and cables you will need to connect your Ledger wallet to your smartphone or USB-C Laptops. Sold at $17.99
- 1 micro USB to USB-C Cable
- 1 micro USB to USB-B Cable
- 1 micro USB to USB-A Cable
Ledger and Trezor (Which is better?)
These are two leading hardware wallet brands standing in close completion to each other.
The Nano S and Trezor One are similar, both support multiple coins. The S’s main advantage here is that it supports Ripple and it’s way cheaper, but the Trezor offers a higher security layer by requiring you to authenticate passphrase support.
The Nano X competes closely with the Trezor Model T. The Trezor Model T supports Ripple and its all touch screen with no buttons. Nano X’s Bluetooth connectivity allows you to connect to your smartphone.
If you are looking to save some money, I’ll recommend a Ledger Wallet. Both wallets are perfect for securing your funds, choosing between them will depend on your requirements.
